Poppy

poppy...

 o petal face,
of bloodstain red
that rose from
opium graveyard bed
to honour the fallen
and the dead
barely men, as yet...
..and each november
i'll remember

within, a deep and
blackened core
like hearts, that
chose to settle scores
conceiving death
by birthing war
without regret...
...and each november
i'll remember

stand bold upon
your strong green stem
just like courageous
servicemen
whose sacrifice
gave hope again
and paid our debt...
...so each november
i'll remember

blow freedom winds
sow poppy seeds
that we today
pause and take heed
of valiant acts
and heroic deeds
lest we forget...
...so each november
i'll remember

wear a poppy today...
and remember

What a wonderful homage!

And thanks so much for participating in last week's Limerick-Off!

I've belatedly posted a new Limerick-Off, in case you haven't seen it yet. (I was traveling and had minimal net access for over a week.)

I know I'm a little late, but that is a beautiful poem Elaine.

Elaine, this is a really good poem. Good imagery, good use of repetition.
